Ptex from Walt Disney Animation studios - now Open Source.

The texturing software that Disney og Pixar are using - Ptex, is now Open Source. meaning . Walt Disney Animation Studios have choosen to give something back to the Open Source community.

There are certain license restrictions, so it's NOT GPL, but you can use the software and make some changes as long as you respect the license agreement.

What is Ptex? Ptex is a UV-Mapping and texturing program that takes the pain of UV-mapping and makes it easier for you to work with UV-maps and high resolution textures:
